IELTS Speaking Part 1: Getting up early

What are the benefits of waking up early in the morning?

Waking up early is the first good habit one should cultivate. By waking up early in the morning, the person can get more time throughout the day to complete the task. Moreover, in the morning, pollution is at its lowest level, so if the person wakes up early in the morning and goes out for a walk, that will be very healthy for their lungs.

How do you motivate yourself to go out of bed early?

I don’t motivate myself. But still, if you can’t make it, fake it. Before this, I was in college. So, due to an unhealthy lifestyle at the hostel, my sleep and wake cycle were very disturbed. But when I returned home, my father helped me get up early. He used to give me a set time target and made time for me to follow, which motivated me to get up early in the morning.

Can you share your morning routine and how it helps you have a productive day?

I wake up at 8 am and go to the gym after that. There I go and work out for 2 or 2. 5 hours. Then I come back, and I’m mostly working on my physical health. So, I’m also taking care of things at home. I come home and help my mother do yoga, and that’s how my morning goes.

Is getting up early essential for success?

Getting up early is optional for success because time doesn’t matter. Most people use nighttime the most because at night, for me, the time is very slow and silent. Everybody is sleeping. So, you have a space to think, and you can also work more efficiently at night. There is nothing bad about working at night or in the morning. It is very objective, and it varies from person to person.

What strategies do you use to ensure you get enough sleep despite waking up early?

My body sleeps well and cycles when I wake up early. So, I get to bed early to sleep, which is how I maintain my cycle.

How does getting up early impact your mood and overall well-being?

Getting up early impacts my mood in a way that makes me feel energetic throughout the day. I have more time to complete all the daily tasks, so I have accomplished these many agendas of the day.

What challenges do you face when establishing a habit of waking up early, and how do you overcome them?

I face a few challenges when it comes to waking up early. The prime challenge is social media distraction. Before bed and sleeping, we scroll our social media accounts and time slips. If I decide to watch a certain movie or scroll for 15 minutes, I will not know, and that 15 minutes will become 50 minutes and 1 hour. So, I try to keep my phone away. I switched off the Wi-Fi, so I wouldn’t have to use the internet to use my phone. The second thing I do is consume less caffeine throughout the day to get to sleep at a convenient time.

How do you make the most of the early hours of the day?

I make the most of the early hours of the day because I have the most energy in the morning. So, these days, I am working on myself. I go to the gym, or I go running or walking or cycling so that the highest amount of energy is channelized to my physical activity and so that I can work out in a good way, and that will help me get relaxed, and it will help me to get through the task of the day.

Do you have any tips for someone who struggles to wake up early but wants to change their habits?

If somebody wants to get up early in the morning, one should follow 21 days to make a hobby rule. It takes 21 days to cultivate a habit. One should eliminate all distractions from the one hour before sleeping. One should keep the phone away from him or herself so that they do not receive any notifications that require replying. They can consume less caffeine so that their body automatically gets to sleep, and if they’re getting up early, they should work out so that at the end of the day, their body must feel a little tired and sleepy to get to sleep easily.

How do you balance early mornings with late nights or social activities?

I have faced challenges at college. There, we had to do night shifts in the hospital, and then sometimes, because I was in the student body association, I also had to work during the day. So, sometimes, I used to sacrifice my sleep, and there was an event that was organized. I did not sleep for two days straight. I took a nap of two hours in between just before the event, and it was very tiring. I do not support this lifestyle. One should take time out for oneself and sleep enough not to disrupt one’s ability or capabilities to do daily activities because sleeping is essential for the brain to work properly.
