  • What the situation was
  • Who the person was
  • How you helped them

Sample 1

Being a helpful person, I always provide unabated support to others. I have done it on multiple occasions, and one is worth discussing.

It was in my 10th standard when one of my friends came to me just two months before the exams, and he told me that he didn’t have money to pay for the tuition and his preparation was far behind because he couldn’t study due to the failing health of her mother. So he required my support, and I helped him in studying.

I used to invite him to my home every day to study together. Under my guidance, he started grasping all the concepts properly, and when the exams came, he passed with flying colours.

I felt very good after helping him because my parents have always taught me that whenever you get a chance to help others, you should help them. After all, it is our duty that if we have some talent, we should not keep it to ourselves; we should pass it on to others.

Sample 2

In my life, I often have a situation when I help someone. One of them is unique and worth mentioning. I was in Singapore on a rainy day. Then, my next-door neighbour was coming back from work, and she just suddenly ripped her feet off because of the slippery floor and fell on the floor.

When I saw she had some swelling on her right arm, I took her to the hospital, and they told her she had a significant fracture on her right arm. They put some plaster on her arm, and I took her back by taxi to her home, and she was my next-door neighbour.

Then, she stayed alone in her house because her children and husband were in China. After all, she was a Chinese girl. I always helped her buy groceries and anything she needed. But I could buy it only on the weekend because I have time off from work so it was easy for me to go there and help her.

She had two and three more appointments in the hospital, and I always went with her there. She formed a good relationship with me because she thought that I was the one who helped her when she was alone and needed someone to help. And after that, whenever I needed help, she always helped me.

After about six months, she allowed me to stay with her for some time in her house because my rental agreement would expire next month, and I couldn’t find an apartment for myself. But she helped me by giving her one room for a seven- or eight-month stay. And she didn’t charge any rent from me.

So if we are helping someone, we could get it done from them. So that is the experience where I got a good friend through helping someone.

Follow-ups

1. Should children be very kind when they help others?

Yes, children should be very kind when they help others. The other person should also feel grateful for being enabled.

2. Should children be taught to be kind to others?

Yes, children should be taught to be kind to others because kindness comes by practice, and it cannot be cultivated into a child overnight. Kindness can be shown and can be prepared in school as well.

3. Should parents help their kids with their homework?

Yes, parents should help their kids with their homework because initially, every child has their own pace of study, and schools these days have a classroom, and the strength is more than the expected ratio. Hence, there are fewer chances for the teacher to give personal attention to the child, and parents helping the child will help them excel in their studies.

 4. What kind of advice should parents give to their children?

There can be many pieces of advice that parents can give to their children. The first one should be to be truthful and honest to their parents and tell them everything without keeping anything from them.

 5. Should parents give children advice, and why?

Yes, parents should advise children because parents are the first counsellors or teachers of the child. The children are like clay. They need to be shaped and given a shape to build a strong foundation of their moral values.

6. Can kids provide any help to parents?

Yes, kids can provide help to their parents by talking to them. Talking can be therapy for parents tired from their busy day at work. Also, they can help their mother or father with household chores by assisting them.

 7. Do you like helping others?

I like helping others because it gives a sense of inner satisfaction and happiness when you see others smile and be grateful for your presence in their lives.

8. In your view, should children be taught to help others?

Yes, children should be taught to help others, and they should also be told that they should help others without expecting anything in return.

 9. How can we encourage children to help others?

We can encourage children to help others by teaching them that sharing can be in terms of food, stationery, and books, and that’s how they can learn to share bigger things in life.

 10. Do you think people are less willing to help others these days compared to the past?

Yes, people are less willing to help these days as compared to the past Because these days, firstly, people are so busy in their own lives that they don’t bother to look up to other people for help or to help them. Secondly, these days, there is an increased number of scams, and people are afraid and scared of helping others because they do not want to fall into a trap.

 11. How do people in your community help one another?

People in our community are physically present for each other if somebody is in need. For example, there was a medical emergency recently in my neighbourhood. Many people gathered, and they were able to deliver the patient to the hospital within a fraction of one hour.
