IELTS ESSAY TOPIC

With growing population in cities, more and more people live in small or no outdoor spaces. Is it positive development or negative?

Essay Answer by one of our students

In this contemporary epoch, the world’s population increasing at an immense rate, particularly in cities. Hence, numerous people live in cozy apartments. According to me, it is a negative development because it leads to disaster repercussions related to facilities and health.

To embark with, the amount of people living in the cities is growing momentum from past few years and continuing to do so. Due to this, the government has to face many difficulties to provide amenities to their people. Likewise, some cities do not have sufficient land to accommodate such large population. Thus, they have to build buildings on public places like parks. For example, the highly populated city Bangalore in India suffering from water shortages due to excessive use of water by their population.

In addition, living in small apartments can arise various health issues as these apartments barely have any outdoor space. Thus, people find it very challenging to do physical activities to keep their body fit. Therefore, lack of engaging in physical exercises often originates many health issues. To cite an example, as per the reports, people from China has various health and lung problems due to living in matchbox-type buildings.

To conclude, although growing population among the cities bring countless benefits, its negative impact on the society cannot be ignored. While it fosters globalization and provides comfortable life to people with all the amenities which they need in their day-to-day life, it also leads to many environmental and health problems.
