IELTS Speaking Part 1 :Recycling

IELTS Speaking Part 1:Recycling

Why do you think recycling is important?

Recycling is very important, especially at this time, because there is a need for sustainable development. We need to stop using the resources over and over again and again. However, once the resource is used and the product is made, it can be formed in some other way to be used again. That is how we can help to save resources. Recycling is important to minimize the waste as well.

What are some common items that can be recycled?

Some common items that can be recycled daily are if we order a food parcel and the parcel comes in boxes. Those boxes can be used to fill the ingredients and be kept in the kitchen or elsewhere wherever required.

How do you separate recyclable materials from non-recyclable ones at home?

At home, we prefer to discard disposable waste daily. However, for recyclable things like glass, hard plastic, or PVC, which can be recycled, we store them in a separate storeroom, and we call the person who is supposed to collect the recyclable material once a month to clear the storeroom every month.

What are some benefits of recycling for the environment?

There are many benefits of recycling for the environment. First of all, the more we recycle, the less of the waste generation is there. If the waste generated is less, then somehow or another, the waste produces pollution, which can be minimized to a certain extent. Secondly, if we recycle the products, it will lead to less utilization of the resources and ultimately will lead to sustainable development.

How does recycling contribute to reducing waste in landfills?

The landfill is a method of discarding waste, especially decomposable stuff. So, if we can recycle the disposable stuff, the pressure on the landfills will be less, and less area or land will be used.

 Should recycling be mandatory?

Yes, recycling should be mandatory because it will ultimately lead to less of a waste burden on the planet and sustainable development.

What creative ways can you reuse or repurpose items instead of throwing them away?

These days, people are very creative when it comes to recycling items. There are many YouTube channels specially dedicated to recycling waste at home. All of us need to learn. We can recycle some containers; we can recycle newspapers by using them. Newspapers are used in many places in the house. We can also recycle clothes we cannot wear because they are out of fashion or torn. We can always recycle them by tailoring them into another kind of outfit. Or we can also tailor it for a pet to wear. That is how we can recycle items at home.

Have you ever participated in a recycling program or initiative?

Not really. I have not participated in a recycling event or program. But yes, in school, there was a competition where we had to make the best out of waste. It was an initiative by our arts and crafts teacher. I remember using disposable cold drink water bottles and caps in that competition. I made a wind chime out of it.

How can individuals encourage others to recycle more in their community?

People are already inspiring others to recycle by creating content on social media, which is, these days, a very important and dominant source of learning for everybody and any generation. We can also create awareness campaigns to make people understand the need for recycling. And the factors and how they can help the planet Earth.
