Do parks play an important role in a city?
Yes, parks play an important role in the city as parks are places where all age groups can interact; parks are good places for people to work out and for children to go and explore.
Do you think parks affect the quality of air in urban areas?
Yes, parks do affect the quality of air in urban areas because, in urban areas, there are a lot of transport and industries that create pollution. Wherever there is a park, there is some greenery because a park has a lot of trees and plants, which increases the quality of oxygen in the air.
Which do you think is more important, housing or green spaces?
Both are equally important. Housing is a basic necessity these days as the population is growing, so there should be an adequate number of houses for everybody to have shelter, and greenery should go hand in hand. Every home should plant a tree nearby to play a huge role in controlling pollution.
Why are trees important?
Trees are important because they can provide shade in the summer, are fruit bearers, and help decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the air.
Do you think green spaces in parks help people’s mental health?
Yes, being close to nature always leads to better mental health. People who stay near nature and go for a walk and are in the surroundings of Mother Earth have better mental health than people who are experiencing life in the city just on their desktop and are not enjoying nature.
What do you think of deforestation?
Deforestation is a major issue and has been a very important and hot topic in the news for many years. Deforestation should be stopped, and the government has taken many measures.
Should we protect trees?
Yes, we all should protect trees by not cutting them and by planting a tree every year to contribute to the greenery of the surroundings, leading to less air pollution.
What can the government do to protect natural beauty spots more in your country?
The government is already playing a huge role in protecting the natural beauty spots, as I am from Chandigarh. The city is very green, so I have seen many places here where the government has put some fences around the areas with a wide variety of trees, and even the roads and the parking area have been decorated with good amounts of plants and trees all around. It overall contributes to increasing air pollution.
Are plants important to your country’s economy?
Plants are important to my country’s economy because they import and export spices to India. We get the spices from the plants and the trees, which play a huge role. Not only spices but plants are the prime ingredient of the major producers of rubber and paper, and along with that, we procure vegetables and fruits, cereals, rice, and pulses from the plants only.
Does your country have a symbolic plant or flower?
Yes, the national tree of the country is the banyan tree. It is a huge tree that provides very good shade in the summer; the country’s national flower is the lotus. Lotus is a flower that grows in a pond, so the country is known for various plants and flowers, and every plant and flower has meaning.
Are there any traditional celebrations where plants or flowers play a role?
There are many celebrations, especially in India, where flowers play a huge role. Day to day, everywhere, there is some or other function, festival, or even marriage where people decorate their houses with plants and flowers. It is a symbol of well-being. Along with that, there are many festivals in India, like Baisakhi, where people celebrate the growth of wheat crops. Similarly, in the southern and eastern parts of India, people celebrate their festivals according to the crops they grow during that period.
Why do so many people want their garden?
Having your garden has many benefits when it comes to having a good time with the family or when people sit together on a weekend. What other place is better than the garden because you inhale the purest oxygen available? Secondly, there are other benefits to having your garden. Those can be that people grow small kitchen ingredients like chilies and lemon, coriander, and fresh herbs. So they can directly get those herbs and ingredients from the garden and use them in the kitchen.
Should people be encouraged to grow their food?
Yes, people should be encouraged to grow their food. There are many reasons for this. The first reason is that we, as the upcoming generation, are busy achieving bigger goals in life. We need to remember our roots and how our ancestors used to grow their food and then have it. So they used to have an idea of the value of the food. So if people start to practice the same by growing not all ingredients but at least one plant or fruit plant in their garden, they will understand the value when they get the fruit or get the ingredient and use it. Secondly, it is a healthy practice as organic farming is very nutritious. So people can grow climbers or creepers in their houses from where they can get organic vegetables.
Do you think children should be taught to grow their food?
Yes, children should be taught to grow their food because it can act as a basic science experiment for children, where they will understand the importance of sunlight, soil, and water and can relate it to their textbooks.
Why do so many older adults enjoy parks and gardens?
When it comes to the older generation, people have plenty of free time where they can get together and socialize. Older people face the problem of loneliness. Gardens and gatherings in the gardens are very beneficial to them because, firstly, they are close to mother nature earth, and they benefit their lungs by inhaling oxygen in a good amount.
Should all houses and flats have their gardens?
Yes, all the houses and flats should have a garden because having a garden nearby is always good. People don’t have to plan to get into a garden and spend quality time. If it’s nearby, it will be convenient for them.
